The Kimberly Process

The Kimberley Process is a government regulated system adopted in 2000 by more than forty countries, the United Nations, and the diamond industry to control the import and export of diamonds across borders. All invoices for rough diamonds, polished diamonds, and diamond jewelry purchased by Jems Jewels & Gold includes the following warranty declaration:

“The diamonds herein invoiced have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved with funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions. The seller hereby guarantees that these diamonds are conflict-free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the supplier of these diamonds.”

Conflict diamonds are diamonds that may originate from areas once controlled by forces opposed to legitimate and internationally recognized governments, and used to fund military action in opposition to those governments. To eliminate the traffic in “conflict diamonds” governments, the international diamond and jewelry industry, and non-governmental organizations, have developed a solution that provides greater assurance to consumers about the legitimate origin of their diamonds and diamond jewelry.
