The 4 C’s of Diamonds

Carat
Often confused with size, carat is the measure of the weight of the diamond. In other words, diamonds that appear to be larger may actually weigh less, and thus have a lower carat rating. One carat is approximately 200 milligrams.

Clarity
Refers to the amount of flaws (known as “inclusions”) present in the diamond. This is measured on a scale from “flawless” to “included.” The more inclusions, the less clear the diamond appears.

Color
A lack of color is most desirable; colors can range from completely colorless to a shade of light yellow or brown. While colorless diamonds are more expensive, color is largely a matter of personal taste, and the cut of a specific diamond can help alter color shades.

Cut
Refers to the shape of a diamond - the size and position of its facets, which influence its luster. Diamonds can be cut into many different shapes.
